Questions people ask
What is an IP address?
It's the address the internet uses to send information back to you, a bit like a mailing address. At the office, everyone usually shares one public IP address that belongs to your internet connection.
Why does IT support ask for my IP address?
To allow your office through a firewall, to set up remote access, or to check whether a problem is on your connection or somewhere else. Click Copy and paste it into your message.
Is the location exact?
No. It's where your internet provider's equipment is, often a nearby city. It never shows your street address.
What's the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.25 and IPv6 addresses are longer, like 2001:db8::1. Many connections have both. Either is fine to share with your IT team.
Do you store my IP address?
This page doesn't save it. Like every website, our hosting provider sees it briefly to deliver the page.
