Fiber for Long Runs, Fast Backbones and Building-to-Building Links
Fiber optic cable sends data as pulses of light through thin strands of glass, instead of electricity over copper wire. That lets it run much farther, carry far more data, and ignore the electrical interference from motors, lighting and nearby storms that can disrupt copper. We install fiber where regular network cable runs out of room: between buildings, between floors and network closets, and anywhere a run is too long for copper.
Fiber or copper? Most desks, phones, cameras and Wi-Fi access points still connect over copper network cable (Cat6 or Cat6A), which is affordable and can also power those devices. Copper tops out at about 328 feet (100 meters) per run. Fiber is the better choice for long distances, links between buildings, and the main connections that tie your network closets together. Most buildings use both, and we recommend the mix that fits yours.
